In an unusual move for the Pokémon franchise, a new pocket monster will appear on mobile game Pokémon Go before its mainline counterparts. Not only that, but new Pokémon Meltan will also be available on Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu.

Meltan is a Mythical Steel-type Pokémon, with a body similar to that of Ditto’s, but with a hex nut-looking head. A fun little video (seen below) has Pokémon Go’s Professor Willow interacting with the familiar Professor Oak about the former’s new discovery. According to both the video and the Pokémon: Let’s Go website, Meltan is some sort of unusual transformation (not evolution) of Ditto.

While it has yet to be specified how, Meltan will serve as a connection between mobile game Pokémon Go and Switch spin-off Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu, with the website describing the former game as  “key” to meeting the new Pokémon in the latter. Before we learned this new Pokemon’s name, it was leaked previously by a Twitter user who found a model for Meltan in Pokémon Go.

The team behind Let’s Go promises more updates soon regarding this new Pokémon; I’m curious to see if Meltan will be implemented in previous titles like Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, or if players will have to wait for the eventual next generation on Switch.

Until then, fans can look forward to the release of Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu for Nintendo Switch on November 16. Check out a look at some exclusive moves that the game will have right here.
