After just over seven months of anticipation, Dragon Ball FighterZ has finally released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game has already received a launch trailer, so Arc System Works and Bandai Namco Entertainment released a video that is a bit different to celebrate the game’s launch. In it, Producer Tomoko Hiroki and Arc System Works’ Game Director Junya Motomura explain the origins of the game’s development.

They begin the video by introducing themselves and then explaining how the idea for the game initially began with Bandai Namco Entertainment. They then go on to explain that after seeing the Dragon Ball Xenoverse series sell over 8 million copies (soon to be 10 million), they noticed just how large the market for Dragon Ball games was.

When approaching a new entry to appeal to this large crowd, the developers decided they wanted to make a more pure and traditional fighting game. Bandai Namco Entertainment decided to approach Arc System Works for the project because they had previously worked with them on Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden on the 3DS. After shuffling some projects around, Arc System Works was able to assist with the Dragon Ball FighterZ’s development.
