Neon City Riders is an upcoming 2D action-adventure game for Mecha Studios. The game was originally funded on Kickstarter back in 2017, but is finally getting its big moment soon. The 80s-inspired beat ’em up launches next week. Mecha Studios’ new trailer provides a great overview of all the sci-fi mayhem coming your way. Give it a look below.

In Neon City Riders, you take on the role of Rick, a vigilante tasked with ridding Neon City of four super-powered gang bosses. In a design choice that is sure to please long-time Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans everywhere, Rick slips on an old-school hockey during battle, making him look just like Casey Jones. Really, the whole look and vibe of this game is something that is sure to speak to children of the 80s and 90s. Its gritty take on cyberpunk reminds me of a mixture between the original TMNT movies and Bladerunner. So, basically exactly my jam.

And I’ll admit, Neon City Riders seems like a game that’s right up my alley, which is why I was instantly excited for it when I first saw it. However, the mixture of excellent style and an open-world that lets you tackle the bosses however you want seems like a potent combo. That type of open-ended design structure served games like Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction very well in the past, and I’m hopeful it works as well here.

Neon City Riders is out on March 12 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If like me, you’re about to have a long holiday or vacation, it might be the perfect thing to load up on a Switch.
