Today DMM launched the previously-announced Attack on Titan crossover event in its mobile and browser game Muv-Luv Alternative: Strike Frontier.

The event features several themed pilots and TSF mecha, and comes with a rather interesting storyline.

Considering that Muv-Luv is a science-fiction series with giant robots fighting aliens, you’d think the crossover to be rather random, and you’d be wrong.

First of all, the story already deals with alternate dimensions, so having its protagonists suddenly finding themselves in the world of Attack on Titan isn’t really all that shocking.

More importantly, the two series have much in common, starting from the vision of humanity pushed to the brink of extinction by a relentless race of giant enemies. It’s not surprising that Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama has cited Muv-Luv as a major source of inspiration for his manga.

The event welcomes you with a 10-day login bonus granting you HR versions of Eren Jaeger and Levi, but that’s far from all.

A special series of missions will pitch your squad against an invasion of titans, prompting you to defend the wall. This time around, tho, the titans have to deal with mecha, so you can mow them down to your heart’s content (even if the last mission is moderately challenging). Completing the missions will let you accumulate points that will allow unlocking a SSR Attack on Titan version of Muv-Luv hero Takeru Shirogane, and a SSR Type-00R Takemikazuchi in AOT cape and colors.

On top of that, the last mission itself (rarely) drops Takeru, the Takemikazuchi, and an Attack on Titan version of the YF-23 Black Widow II.

There’s plenty more to acquire via gacha (and this time around you can have a chance at all the goodies with gems gained via grinding. Nothing is restricted to real-money gachas), including SSR versions of Marimo Jinguuji and Meiya Mitsurugi dressed in survey corps gear, Eren Jaeger in titan version (funnily, he’s considered a TSF) and HR drops of basically every relevant Attack on Titan character, including Mikasa, Armin, Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, Sasha, Conny Jean, Christa, Ymir, Erwin, and Hange.

The most relevant factor is that all of those characters and TSF represent the first belonging to the newly-introduced “Hope” element that are available without needing to use a paid gacha. They’re probably going to be invaluable in future events featuring Despair-type BETA enemies.

One caveat is worth mentioning: the event is available exclusively in the All-Ages version of the game. It does not appear at all in the R-Rated version. The reason is rather obvious, as featuring a third-party intellectual property in a game featuring adult content would probably cause all sorts of problems. Luckily, the All-Ages version has just been made playable in the west on Android and iOS without the need of using a VPN.

Beyond the fact that the event’s login bonus, story, missions, and gacha don’t appear in the R-Rated version, the two versions are fully compatible, and all the pilots and TSFs you’ll earn on the All-Ages version will appear in the R-Rated one as well, so if you prefer the latter, you can simply play this event on the former, and then enjoy all the goodies you earn in both.

Muv-Luv Alternative: Strike Frontier is currently available in Japan for iOS, Android, and browsers. Incidentally, at the moment there are two events going on, the second being the Valentine’s Day event. The Attack on Titan event will go on until February 15th.
