Sony has today formally announced the next installment in their annual baseball series with MLB The Show 19, which is scheduled to launch in March 2019.

Gracing the cover of MLB The Show 19 this year will be that of the power-hitting Bryce Harper. The reigning Home Run Derby champion and former MVP is a logical pick to hit this year’s cover art, there’s only one problem: Harper isn’t currently signed with a team. Yes, if you’ve been following baseball, then you’re likely aware that Harper is currently a free agent and will likely be pursued by a variety of different teams this offseason. As of now, the cover of MLB The Show 19 simply has Harper present wearing a hoodie, but the final art will be revealed once he signs with a team in the coming weeks or months.

We’ve seen instances in the past where athletes end up switching teams before the game in which they’re appearing on is actually released. I can’t ever really remember a free agent being purposefully chosen to star on a cover of a sports game in the past like this. It’s definitely unique and makes my interest in where Harper signs all the more fascinating.

As for other actual details on MLB The Show 19, it’ll be arriving with its usual slew of different editions. The standard edition as you might expect will retail for $59.99 and will contain just the game. The Gone Yard Edition, which will be exclusive to GameStop, will again this year come with a hat along with a bunch of other goodies for $99.99. The MVP Edition will come in a steelbook case and will set you back $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe Edition will retail for $99.99 and will include a bunch of in-game bonuses to help kickstart your Diamond Dynasty squad.

You can find all of the aforementioned versions of MLB The Show 19 and the different items that will come with each attached in the image gallery at the bottom of the page. You can also see what the current box art looks like.

Lastly, Sony released a new announce trailer for MLB The Show 19 that features Harper. You can check that out below.

MLB The Show 19 is scheduled to release next year on March 26, 2019, exclusively for PS4.
