Minecraft will no longer be receiving updates or development for its Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U versions.

Developer 4J Studios, who handles development of Minecraft’s console iterations, announced the end of support on Twitter as they packed up their development kits for the old consoles. Its been six years since Minecraft first appeared on consoles with the Xbox 360 version on May 9, 2012. A PlayStation 3 version followed on December 17, 2013, a PlayStation Vita version on October 14, 2014, and a Wii U version on December 17, 2015.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Mash-up Pack that released on Tuesday was the final update for the Xbox 360 version (as well as the other versions who got the update later that day), with 4J Studios thanking the more than 21 million players who have appeared on the Xbox 360 version since release.

Meanwhile Minecraft players on more modern consoles are enjoying cross-play thanks to the Bedrock Edition which replaced the Pocket Edition and was ported to non-mobile platforms in order to allow for universal play on iPhones, Android devices, Xbox One, Windows 10, and even Nintendo Switch but not PlayStation 4 since Sony refuses to support cross-play unless bullied relentlessly by Fortnite players. The Nintendo 3DS port of Minecraft was handled by Other Ocean Interactive who have not yet indicated whether development has stopped for that platform as well. The European version of Minecraft on 3DS was finally released in September of this year after its release in North America in 2017.
