Are you looking for something to do with your old DualShock 4 controllers once the PlayStation 5 comes out? Well, it looks like Microsoft has you covered.

Earlier this week, Sony announced that games on PlayStation 5 would require the DualSense controller and that the DualShock 4 would only work with games that were originally on the PlayStation 4. This was one of several controversial moves that garnered widespread criticism of the console gaming market leader, arguing that the company was being anti-consumer.

And, in line with the consistent narrative of the second half of this gaming generation, Microsoft quietly one-upped Sony by re-affirming that they would still support the DualShock 4 on xCloud. This information isn’t new, but Tom Warren, a senior editor at The Verge, took to Twitter to reaffirm it after the recent news that the controller wouldn’t be as useful on the PlayStation 5.

This story resurfacing is good for Xbox too, especially since they just announced that soon xCloud would be available for all GamePass subscribers starting in September. While Microsoft hasn’t released any new concrete information about this change, they did release a new trailer today showcasing the power and potential of xCloud since it now works in concert with Game Pass.

Microsoft hasn’t been shy about their support for other devices, controllers and platforms either, from adding DualShock 4 and Switch Pro controller support to their games on Steam, to having Xbox achievements in Minecraft on other platforms, Microsoft’s new method of stealthily introducing players on other platforms to their ecosystem seems to be one of their primary methods of gaining back lost ground after the Xbox One’s disastrous launch.
