In a report from Variety, actor Mark Wahlberg is in final negotiations to star in the Uncharted movie with Tom Holland.

Wahlberg is said to play Victor “Sully” Sullivan alongside Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake. At one point, Wahlberg was supposed to play Nathan Drake back in the day when David O. Russell was attached to direct the film. Additionally, Variety points out that once Sony decided the movie would be an origin story, Wahlberg wanted to be involved in some way.

The latest attempt at the Uncharted movie will be directed by Bumblebees‘ Travis Knight with a screenplay from Art Marcum, Joe Carnahan, and Rafe Judkins. Additionally, it’ll be produced by Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Charles Roven. PlayStation Productions, which is run by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will also be on board to executive produce the film. This will mark the first production between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.

Over the years, Sony has gone through several different directors and writers with the Uncharted adaptation. Director David O. Russell dropped out in 2011 where Mark Wahlberg and Robert De Niro were said to have parts. More recently, director Dan Trachtenberg exited the film back in August. This new iteration of Uncharted will be an origin story with a younger Nathan Drake. No production start date has been announced.

The Uncharted franchise started back in 2007 with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune on the PlayStation 3. Since then, we’ve seen several sequels and spin-offs in the franchise. Recently, Uncharted actors Nolan North and Troy Baker have started playing Uncharted 2 on their YouTube channel Retro Replay.

The Uncharted film is scheduled for release on December 18, 2020 under Sony Pictures.  While we wait for the film to release, you can pick up the Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Uncharted: Lost Legacy on PlayStation 4.
