Winter means many things for gamers. From the string of enormous blockbuster releases to the wealth of awards ceremonies that categorize and celebrate the year’s biggest and best titles. Although not exclusively gaming-themed; the BAFTA Children’s Awards also shines a spotlight on the world of video games.

The BAFTA Children’s Awards is an offshoot of the long-running Brittish Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards which separates itself from the original by focusing on media aimed at younger audiences. Among the categories at 2018’s ceremony which took place at Roundhouse in London, England, last night were comedy, entertainment, drama, feature film, games, and many more. With four nominations per category, gaming was represented by one Ubisoft entry and three Sony Interactive Entertainment titles.

Batting for Sony Interactive Entertainment was family-friendly sports game title Everybody’s Golf, party game Frantics, and sequel to PlayStation 4 launch title Knack 2. Flying solo on Ubisoft’s side was Mario + Rabbids: Kindom Battle.

Mario + Rabbids: Kindom Battle swept up the BAFTA Children’s Award. The unusual cross-over sees a merge of Super Mario’s universe with that of the hyperactive Raving Rabbids who were popularized through Rayman titles. The strategy game features Rabbids taking the form of many well-known Nintendo characters including Donkey Kong and Princess Peach.

The award-winning Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
