Perhaps letting the cat out of the bag just a tad bit early, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson today announced that he’ll be gracing the front cover of this year’s edition of Madden NFL 21.

Jackson revealed this information in a new video conversation with the Ravens organization. Even though Electronic Arts has yet to confirm the news themselves, Jackson clearly stated that he’ll be on the cover of Madden 21 when it launches later this year. He also made clear that he’s not concerned about any such “Madden Curse” that comes with gracing the cover of the video game.

“It’s always been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. Since I first started playing Madden. It’s dope,” Jackson said. “For me to be on the front of it, that’s a dream come true.”

EA’s decision to make Jackson the cover star for Madden NFL 21 is essentially a no-brainer. Jackson is coming off of one of the best seasons by any quarterback in the history of the NFL and is the league’s reigning MVP. In fact, Jackson’s 2019 season was so spectacular that he became only the second unanimous MVP in the history of the NFL. Jackson also follows in the footsteps of Patrick Mahomes, who last year served as the cover star on Madden NFL 20 after coming off of an MVP season in 2018.

Again, it’s worth noting that EA has yet to confirm what Jackson has announced just yet, but considering the certainty with which he talked about this news, it’s almost positively a done deal. As of now, Madden NFL 21 has yet to even be formally unveiled by EA, but considering the game’s expected launch is only four to five months away, we should be hearing a whole lot more soon.

Whenever EA officially reveals the release date, platforms, and finalized box art for Madden NFL 21, we’ll let you know. Given that this is a next-gen console launch year, too, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the annualized football sim also appearing on the PS5 and Xbox Series X later in 2020.

UPDATE: The official Madden Twitter account responded to Jackson’s comments not too long after and simply had this to say:
