While I enjoyed Madden NFL 19, the community’s reception was a bit more tepid. Last year’s game was subject to bugs, even after several updates, and some players didn’t like the general gameplay feel as much anymore. That being said, Creative Director Mike Young is hopeful that things will change this year as he recently told Game Informer that Madden NFL 20 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One is “a cleaner and a more bug-free game.”

That comment came as part of a larger statement regarding what gameplay changes players can expect in Madden NFL 20. “There is probably going to be a laundry list of things the community would get excited about… I think we did a lot with animations. It’s a cleaner and a more bug-free game.” Currently, the smaller gameplay improvements have not been detailed by EA Tiburon, though they have gone over some additions to franchise mode, the new Face of the Franchise: QB1 career campaign that is replacing Longshot and features some college teams, Run-Pass Option plays, and the Superstar X-Factor players and abilities that add more depth to the game.

Mike Young also told Game Informer that the development team is going about fixing issues and bugs in a smarter way than before, opting to tune and fix things throughout the course of development instead of right at the end. This approach apparently made the game playable earlier in development than usual and may even allow EA Tiburon to include a currently unannounced feature that started as a fix but “actually became a new way to maybe play.”

If that teased feature does make the cut, DualShockers will be sure to let you know. Madden NFL 20 will release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 2, 2019. Those interested in the game can pre-order it on Amazon right now.
