Level-5 is well known in the gaming community for their large portfolio of titles covering multiple genres such as Dark Cloud, Yo-kai Watch, and the Professor Layton series.

Most Recently, the developer announced Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy for western 3DS and iOS/Android users. In the past, the Layton series has been published by Nintendo for its western release. However, in the case of Layton’s Mystery Journey, Level-5 will be handling the publishing of the beloved mystery series.

While its certainly not new for Level-5 to publish games in the west, it’s interesting to learn that the developer will self-publish a more notable series from their portfolio. DualShockers had the chance to sit down with director of games marketing at Level-5 abby, Lucy Pozniak, and director of production at Level-5 abby, George Valko, to ask about how the publishing experience has been for the company.

“It’s been fun and also challenging” said Valko, adding, “Everything you try adds a new initial frustration and challenge, but we’ve learned a lot and it’s made us a bigger and better company. So we’re really looking forward to our next titles, we know exactly what we’re going to do and how we’re going to do it. That said, we’re looking forward to publish more and more as we release more and more games.”

We followed up with a more specific question by asking if their plans include the Inazuma Eleven series, to which Valko replied, “That’s something we are definitely looking into, but we can’t really give a definitive answer at the moment.”

Level-5 released the first Inazume Eleven title in 2008 for the Nintendo DS. However, while most of the series released to Europe, published by Nintendo, only the 3DS port of the original game came to North America in 2014. This is unfortunate for some Inazume Eleven fans, but with the recent announcement of the new Inazuma Eleven: Ares no Tenbin, which follows events directly after the first Inazume Eleven, there could be a possibility that North American fans could see a release.

Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy launches on iOS/Android worldwide on July 20 and 3DS fall 2017 in North America and Europe.
