Kingdom Hearts III Director Says Square Doesn’t Plan on “Revealing Any Surprise Disney Worlds”

One of the biggest questions that has lingered as we enter the final stretch towards release with Kingdom Hearts III has been in regards to the number of worlds in the game. Have they all now been officially revealed, or has Square tucked away some surprise worlds within the game for the players to discover on their own?

When asked this question themselves in a recent with Newsweek, Kingdom Hearts III’s co-director Tai Yasue seemed to imply that Square Enix has not hidden any Disney worlds specifically within the game that will be left for players to discover. Instead, he said the surprises will come in the form of gameplay that each world will offer.

“We’re not planning on revealing any surprise Disney worlds, but these new properties gave us a chance to come up with a lot of new and fresh ideas, that there will certain be a lot of surprises with the gameplay,” Yasue told Newsweek.

It’s worth noting that Kingdom Hearts III’s other director Tetsuya Nomura told us essentially the same thing during an interview from 2017. “I don’t think we will be keeping any of the worlds a secret until the game’s release,” Nomura said to us at D23. While plans could have changed over that period of time, considering both Yasue and Nomura have stated the same thing seems to prove that no additional “surprise” worlds will be seen when the game releases.

As it stands, there are still quite a few new Disney worlds as it is in Kingdom Hearts III with environments based off of Toy StoryBig Hero 6Tangled, and Frozen all being included this time around. Also worth pointing out is that Yasue’s statement is only in regards to Disney worlds, so if I had to guess, there will still be a surprise world or two in Kingdom Hearts III, they just won’t be based on Disney properties. Plus, there’s always the chance that another world could be revealed here in the coming final stretch towards release, even though that seems unlikely considering the game’s “Final Battle Trailer” has already been released.

So what do you think? Do you think that Yasue is pulling a fast one on us all and that there will be some surprise Disney worlds in Kingdom Hearts III after all? Or have we already seen everything new that it has to offer? Let me know down in the comments.

Kingdom Hearts III is slated to release later this month (that’s weird to say) on January 29 for PS4 and Xbox One. To hold yourself over until release, be sure to read our guide telling you everything you need to know about the game ahead of launch.
