Growing European publisher Kalypso Media, known for titles like the upcoming Tropico 6, has revealed a new major acquisition. The publisher has acquired the rights to all of the game franchises created by former developer Pyro Studios, namely the popular real-time-strategy Commandos series.
The Commandos series has been dormant since 2006, when spin-off Commandos: Strike Force released on PC, PS2, and Xbox. Following this acquisition, Kalypso Media owns the distribution rights to all previously released Commandos titles and other Pyro Studios IP like Praetorians and Imperial Glory, and will also be continuing them.
Kalypso Media claims that they will soon be finding development partners in order to create new titles from these franchises for “all platforms.” They are also planning on updating these older games so they can run on modern PCs and other modern platforms.
Founder and Global Managing Director of Kalypso Media Simon Hellwig commented on this meaningful purchased and how it will help his company grow. He also re-affirms that the publisher is looking to create and update the titles within Pyro Studios’ library of titles:

The opportunities that arise from this acquisition will help create the best possible conditions for the further growth of the Kalypso Media Group.

Therefore, we see it as our responsibility to want to revive and further develop these beloved games for the fans around the world. Of course, this will include the development of a completely new games for all platforms, but also an extensive adaptation of the existing titles for contemporary technologies and platforms. We’re incredibly excited about the opportunities, and will begin speaking to potential development studios in the near future.”
Ignacio Perez, the Founder of Pyro Studios, also discussed the acquisition and how it bodes well for his studios franchises:
