Last week, Sony and Kojima Productions finally announced the release date for Death Stranding to the pleasure of many fans. Since that time, the game’s director Hideo Kojima has been tweeting out a variety of interesting details associated the game.

One of the most intriguing tidbits though came about just recently when Kojima began talking more about the timeline of Death Stranding and how the game came together. In a series of two different threads, Kojima at first talked about the dates in which Kojima Productions came about. Starting in December 2015 when the studio was first established, Kojima went on to also mention some of the other windows of importance such as moving to the Kojima Productions office in May of 2016 and deciding on a game engine that fall.

Perhaps more interestingly though, Kojima ended up tweeting out more dates in regards to when certain members of the Death Stranding cast joined the team. Kojima said that he met with Norman Reedus in February 2016 and asked him to play the main protagonist of Sam in the game. After Norman agreed, the following month they scanned his body for use in the initial trailer.

Later in the year during June and July, Kojima ended up pitching Mads Mikkelsen on joining the game as well. After Mads agree to get involved, in August they met up to scan him, too. Additionally, director Guillermo del Toro had his body scanned to be placed into the game that same year in September. Kojima included some behind-the-scenes images of these moments in question in his tweet.

I’m always a sucker for learning more details about a game’s development, so I personally really enjoyed reading about some of this from Kojima. It’s especially intriguing to me that Mads Mikkelsen didn’t even join the game until after Death Stranding’s initial trailer debuted at E3 2016.

It’s even more fascinating knowing that all of this was going on before the full team at Kojima Productions had its office finished. This game has really come together in a way I haven’t seen before and its a huge credit to the entire team at Kojima Productions that the finished product will be out before the end of 2019.

If you weren’t already counting down the days yourself, Death Stranding is due out on November 8, 2019, exclusively for the PS4.
