Coming from developer Sam Barlow as one of the series’ creative leads, the upcoming series #WarGames will not only bring viewers into a surprising recreation of a beloved 1980s film, but will also engage viewers with a unique interactive format that blurs the line between game and TV series.
Interactive video publisher Eko has announced that #WarGames will debut on March 14th, 2018, with the interactive series to debut on Eko’s website and video streaming service Vudu, while the series will also be available on PC (via Steam) and on iOS. The series will also come to Xbox One, though no release date for it has been announced at this time.
The series itself is based on the cult classic 1983 film WarGames, though the new series has updated the timeline to modern day times and revolves around the activities and exploits of hacktivists.
Specifically, the project gained attention for its unique melding of a typical TV series with that of a more game-like approach, with Sam Barlow acting as the series’ creative lead after his unique work on 2015’s Her Story. The series itself will allow viewers to see multiple video feeds of moments happening on the show, and their decisions of which feeds to view and monitor will alter the experience based on the viewers’ decisions.
