Yesterday, Microsoft announced during a livestream (as well as Twitter) that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will receive a 4K upgrade for the Xbox One X.

According to 343 Industries head Bonnie Ross, the developer has been waiting for the right time to implement the title a graphical upgrade, citing that the reason it took so long was due to the compilation featuring six different in-game engines:

“[The Master Chief Collection] is six engines. It’s not an easy thing to move over, and there’s a lot of risk, which doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. It just means we should be cautious about when we should do it.”

Towards the end of the stream, Ross explained that Halo fans will have to wait until spring 2018 to get a glimpse at the new and improved visuals. Once it is released, 343 will request fan feedback regarding the collection’s graphical update

Initially launched in November of 2014, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a compilation that features Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4 and Halo 3: ODST, which was released at a later date. In addition to receiving the first four principal Halo games, the compilation also included access to the live-action series Halo: Nightfall as well as the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta, which was available for a limited time.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available now exclusively on Xbox One
