Guillermo del Toro Seems to Know Almost Nothing about Death Stranding

Its been over a year since we last saw anything about Death Stranding, the latest game from Hideo Kojima, and fans are starting to itch to learn more. Unfortunately, it seems like even those who have been involved with the game directly might not know much either.

During a recent Reddit AMA promoting his latest film The Shape of Water, Guillermo del Toro — who appeared in last year’s trailer for Death Stranding — was simply asked, “Tell me about death stranding,” to which he responded with the following:

Kojima San scanned my body and face for the model over an entire day in Toronto. He needed it for the digital Avatar (and for blackmail, perhaps) and he then sent me the teaser you all saw. That’s it- He send me toys and gifts every few weeks but NO clues. I am dying to know.

While del Toro could easily be playing coy with us, if what he says is in fact true then it wouldn’t be a huge surprise. Despite openly talking about Death Stranding on a handful of occasions, Kojima has been, per usual, very secretive with his newest project. Even though del Toro is a friend, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine Kojima even keeping those close to him in the dark when it comes to the specifics of Death Stranding.

Hopefully we’ll learn more about Death Stranding in the coming days as it has already been confirmed that both Guillermo and Hideo Kojima will be serving as presenters at The Game Awards, which take place this Thursday, December 7. Norman Reedus, who plays the protagonist in Death Stranding, will also be live at the event in the role of a presenter as well.

Of course, if you can’t watch The Game Awards later this week then don’t worry, as we’ll be covering all news that comes out of the show including anything that might be related to Hideo Kojima’s mysterious game
