Frontwing and Prototype announced Switch ports for Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Vol 1 & 2. Both games will launch as a single package on the Nintendo Switch Eshop on June 25, for 2000 Yen (Tax included) and will include English text (along with Japanese and Simplified Chinese).

Grisaia: Phantom Trigger is the continuation of the Grisaia visual novel franchise started in 2011. To quickly introduce the series if you’re unfamiliar with it, it’s basically about teenagers, mainly girls, attending a special school where they train to fight. All while participating in actual, dangerous missions.

Grisaia is pretty popular in the west, most notably thanks to Watanabe Akio handling the character design and illustrations. He’s really popular worldwide as the chara designer of the Monogatari anime adaptations, redrawing Vofan’s original designs. Watanabe Akio also handled the original character designs of the first two seasons of the Pretty Rhythm series Grisaia: Phantom Trigger also some anime adaptation itself. The first three Grisaia games were also ported to Switch in English November 2019.

Grisaia: Phantom trigger is released in smaller volumes like these to allow Frontwing to launch each visual novel globally. Each new volume launches on PC simultaneously with Japanese and English support.

The series also has pretty big seiyuu in it, the four main characters, Rena, Tohka, Chris, and Murasaki, are respectively voiced by Maaya Uchida, Ayane Sakura, Kaori Nazuka, and Atsumi Tanezaki.

The latest game is Vol. 6, released on PC in April 2019. The next episode, Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Vol. 7, launches on July 22, 2020. It’s safe to assume all the episodes will probably be coming to Nintendo Switch at some point. If you enjoy girls and guns type of anime stories, comedy, romance, and darker twists, Grisaia is the way to go.
