Sucker Punch released a new trailer and announced the launch date for Ghost of Tsushima earlier today and the game as a whole continues to look pretty great. If you live in a western market, however, there’s a good chance that you didn’t end up seeing the trailer for the game that features Japanese voiceover and that’s something you should quickly rectify.
PlayStation Japan released the same new story trailer for Ghost of Tsushima this morning that we received over here in North America, but as I’m sure you can guess, this trailer featured native Japanese voices instead. For a game that takes place entirely in ancient Japan, the character voices in this version of the trailer feel a lot more natural and appropriate, given the setting. If you’re like me and really enjoy entrenching yourself in the worlds that you’re playing in, you may even be swayed that Japanese VO might be the way to go if you’re looking to pick up Ghost of Tsushima.
Fortunately, if you want to play the full game with Japanese voices, that’s something you’ll be able to do. In case you weren’t aware, Sucker Punch has already confirmed that Ghost of Tsushima will have a native Japanese audio option if you decide that’s something you’d be interested in. You’ll still be able to know what’s going on thanks to English subtitles, but the voiceover work itself will still then entirely be in Japanese. This is something that last year’s release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice also did and I found that it made me that much more invested in the game’s world as a result.
Still, it’s worth noting that the English voice acting for Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t seem to be anything to scoff at, either. All of the voice acting work that we’ve seen from this game so far seems to be of a very high quality, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. Sucker Punch has long been one of the premiere developers that PlayStation has under its umbrella. It would be hard to expect anything other than excellence from the Washington-based developer at this point in time considering the studio’s past work.
