Thanks to modern technology, we can record and edit all the really dumb and/or creative pretty simply. That includes this ridiculous cover of Smash Mouth’s “All-Star” using an in-game piano in Fortnite to perform it.

From Reddit user Jachael123_, using the power of video editing software, a whole lot of creativity, and tons of time, this piece of internet gold was born. The main melody and vocal melody is done using the giant in-game piano, which can be found in Pleasant Park, while the percussive sections were done in a variety of ways including using gunfire for the main drum part.

There are pretty nice touches that give the performance some personality outside of it just being a weird recreation of Smash Mouth’s popular tune. Using the “Take the L” emote during the beginning verse “She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb/in the shape of an ‘L’ on her forehead” was a nice touch. Also, using the fence as the clapping section was great. All of this is packaged in a nicely edited two-minute video that is worth the view.

For the uninitiated, “All-Star” is a song from pop rock band Smash Mouth. Featured on their 1999 album Astro Lounge, it is the band’s most popular song charting at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. In some ways, the song is more popular than the band itself. If you want to see a blast from the past, check out the official music video which helped promote Ben Stiller’s superhero comedy, Mystery Men.

In other Fortnite news, more details about the Fortnite World Cup have been announced. The competition will begin on April 13, 2019, and feature a $100 million prize pool. That’s a whole lotta cash.
