As part of PlayStation’s State of Play stream today, Sony recognized the recent 25th anniversary of the iconic PlayStation brand with a special message from one of its creators.

Ken Kutaragi, the former CEO of PlayStation back when it was still known as Sony Computer Entertainment, appeared in a brief video at the end of State of Play. Kutaragi, who is widely considered to be one of the primary inventors of the PlayStation and is known as the “father” of the brand, thanked fans for their support over the years and also acknowledged the game creators and journalists who also played a part in PlayStation’s rise.

Kutaragi also talked about how back when he first envisioned PlayStation, gaming was still primarily for younger audiences. He imagined a time though when adults and females would also begin playing games in larger droves though, and he said that he is pleased to see this goal come to fruition so many years later. As for what’s next, he ended his message by stating that he’s excited to see where PlayStation goes in the future.

While Kutaragi’s message doesn’t contain anything really noteworthy, it is nice to see the former PlayStation boss returning for this occasion. Without Kutaragi at the helm of PlayStation all those years back, who knows if the brand ever becomes as big as it has over the past 25 years. He is surely one of the company’s most vital factors in what made the platform successful, in addition to those that Kutaragi also said played an important role.
