Few things are as widely celebrated in the multiplayer gaming community as dedicated servers. And there is no question why — strong, dedicated servers bring with them stability, improved matchmaking, and enhancments to the online infrastructure. And according to a Ubisoft announcment today, For Honor PC players will be able to play on dedicated servers beginning February 19, 2018.

Dedicated servers in general are not a new reveal to players following the game. In fact, the project was put as a mid-term goal last July for For Honor‘s development team. However, this is the first we are hearing of a solid release date for the servers.

Why are dedicated servers such a big deal in For Honor (or any game that is already live)? It comes down to the fact that creating, testing, and implementing a stable experience for those playing during the transition is a project in itself. That much was echoed in For Honor‘s Game Director Damien Kieken’s statement on the matter:

Changing the online infrastructure while the game was live was a challenge, but a decisive step in improving the game experience of our players. The implementation of the dedicated servers gives us confidence in the direction the game is taking and will pave the way for a full year of continued support and new contents.

This new change is part of For Honor’s fifth season, titled Age of Wolves. Beginning February 15, 2018, the new season will bring a new season event, training modes, and Hero rebalancing. For an idea of what you can expect in the new season, check out the trailer and roadmap below.

One thing that goes unmentioned, however, is when PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can expect their swing with dedicated servers. While the game has understandably taken off more with PC gamers over console gamers, hopefully the improved infrastructure makes its way to consoles soon.

For Honor is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
