Final Fantasy XIV Shows Update 4.2 With New 1080p Screenshots of Story and Byakko Battle

Today Square Enix released the first official batch of screenshots of Final Fantasy XIV update 4.2, titled “Rise of a New Sun“.

The screenshots give us a glimpse into the story, that will bring the Warriors of Light and their scion friends back to Doma, as the post-war turmoil in Ala Mhigo is finally winding down. Yet, something is happening in the far east, threatening to spark a new fire. Familiar characters will appear once more, including everyone’s favorite ninja Yugiri, Gosetsu, and Hien. While she is not featured in the screenshots, I bet quite a few players are looking forward to seeing Yotsuyu again as well.

We also see the first trial battle against one of the Four Lords, Byakko. He is one of the four holy beasts guarding the far east. At the moment we don’t know much more about the battle, but it will be available in both normal and extreme version.

The update doesn’t have a precise release date, but we do know that it’ll come in January, bringing along a ton more features and content.

You can check out the screenshots. If you want to learn more about the game, you can enjoy our recent interview with Naoki Yoshida and our review of the Stormblood expansion.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PS4 and PC.
