FIFA 20 Ultimate TOTSSF and Season 7 Launch With a Whimper

You’d be forgiven if you assumed EA would bring some top-tier content to FIFA 20 as Team of the Season So Far is winding down and the final round of Icon Swaps have now ended. But instead, they’ve seemingly elected to go out with a whimper in place of that massive bang many expected.

That being said, the Ultimate TOTSSF is stacked with top players. The chances of you packing one without spending ridiculous amounts of money is low. But the players are there. Which should drive down the transfer market price for those top players. All in all, it’s going to be a good thing for the more casual audience.

However, the big news is the complete lack of anything to take the place of Icon Swaps. We’ve known since the beginning of the FIFA 20 cycle that there would only be three rounds of Icon Swaps. But, I think it’s fair to say, most expected EA to replace them with something. Instead, there’s nothing. The menu is gone and devoid of anything else. It’s disappointing but almost expected at this point.

Of course, there is a new season, which means tons of new cosmetics you’ll probably never look at and a few players that are already behind the power curve. It’ll also take you a month to unlock them, so it continues to feel pointless unless your favorite happens to get in. The one cool thing is that they’re giving out some fun loan players like the best version of Ronaldinho. Of course, you don’t get to play with that permanently, so it’s not as exciting as it could be.

I will say that tossing in Jack Grealish as the new objective player is pretty great. And that Dries Mertens in SBCs is immediately going into my squad. But, in totality, this feels like one of the most lackluster content drops you could imagine. Though, it being FIFA, that’s not that surprising.

FIFA 20 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. At this point, I would just tell you to hold out for FIFA 21, but if you really miss football, it can be fun. When the servers are working, at least.
