FIFA 18 Dethrones Destiny 2 in Latest UK Sales Chart; 3 out 5 Copies Sell on PS4, Just 3% on Switch

The 39th week of the UK weekly sales chart is in, and unlike the last three weeks: Bungie’s Destiny 2 is no longer the top dog. Rather a very familiar face to the UK charts, FIFA, has dethroned the shooter with its latest yearly installment FIFA 18, which released last week on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and last-generation consoles.

Breaking down the game’s sales by platform, it was Sony and the PS4 that came out on top with 60 percent of all copies sold, which is up from its 53 percent share of FIFA 17’s launch.

Xbox One then followed with more than a third of sales. The two home consoles combined for 97 percent of all FIFA 18 units sold.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version recouped less than three percent sales, a figure indicative of the console’s small install base compared to Microsoft and Sony’s consoles, as well as perhaps how committed FIFA fans are to playing the best experience of the game, as the Switch’s version is notably inferior across the board.

Launch sales for the new entry were notably down 25% year-on-year, a decline that can be attributed to the continual rise of digital marketplaces, as well as the fact that the massively popular soccer simulation game launched on Friday this year opposed to its normal Tuesday spot, losing multiple days on the market. Further, it’s also possible it just experienced a decrease in sales.

Last week’s No.1, Destiny 2, falls one spot to No.2, followed by Forza Horizon 3 at No.3, NBA 2K18 at No.4, and Grand Theft Auto V at No.5. Meanwhile, last week’s big new release and No.2 game, Project CARS 2 from Bandai Namco, slipped to No.7, with less than half of the sales it managed the first time around.

In addition to FIFA 18, the only other new release to crack the chart was NIS America’s Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, which came in at No.36.
