Developer Sushee has announced that Fear Effect Sedna, its former Kickstarter title, is set to release sometime in early 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, as well as now the Nintendo Switch.

For those that don’t know: Fear Effect is an action-adventure series that hit all the way back in 2000 via the PlayStation and via developer Kronos Digital Entertainment and publisher Eidos Interactive. To date, the game is widely considered a cult-hit.

The relative success of the first game prompted a sequel in 2001, called Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix. Despite being called Fear Effect 2, the game was actually a prequel. It saw similar success as the first game in terms of critical and commercial reception.

This led to a third game in the series, which was to be called Fear Effect Inferno, however, it never saw the light day after work on it was discontinued. Eventually, Kronos disbanded, and Fear Effect went with it. That is until 2016, when the aforementioned Sushee announced it was bringing it back.

Fear Effect Sedna is specifically a sequel, set four years after the first game. According to an official description, “things have changed for the team:” Hana, freed from Triad, lives with Rain in Hong Kong and works as an occasional mercenary, while Deke has grown apart from them since Glas returned to the U.S.

Hana has accepted a small mission from an apparent shadowy organization, who wants to snatch a mysterious ancient statuette held by the Chinese ambassador in France, her birthplace. But as you would expect, this “easy mission” leads Hana into something much bigger than she expected. Meanwhile, Glas soon finds himself off to Greenland after he is approached by a client “who catches his attention.”

According to Sushee, Fear Effect Senda is dedicated to recreating the atmosphere and characters from the original game, but will also immerse players in a completely unique and new world — one that will appeal to not only old fans, but new as well.

There is currently no word if Fear Effect Sedna, which is being published by Square Enix, will release at retail in addition to digitally, nor how much it will cost.

If you’re on PC and can’t wait until next year to get your hands on the game — good news — you don’t have to: thanks to a free demo via Steam.

In other recent and related news, developer Sushee revealed back in August a remake of the the first game. Titled Fear Effect Reinventedthe remake is slated to release on the same platforms as Fear Effect Sedna sometime in 2018.
