God of War has now been out for a week and it seems that fans have finally uncovered one of the game’s biggest secrets thanks to a physical item that came with a certain edition of the game.

Over on the God of War subreddit, fans who purchased the Stone Mason Edition of the game began piecing together clues that they thought might lead to a secret treasure. This version of the game came bundled together with a cloth map that shows off the world that God of War takes place within. More than this though, the map also contained a series of Norse runes that once fans began deciphering, seemed to be leading players to a secret treasure in the game.

The text after decoding the runes read as follows:

“The brilliant huldra blacksmiths Brok and Sindri travelled all around the lands of Midgard to create this great map for the giantess Faye a mysterious treasure was found at the space between them at the conclusion of their journey unfortunately for the brothers the treasure’s location was instantly forgotten Brok retraced his steps and blamed Sindri for losing the treasure Sindri retraced his own steps but clearly knew it was Brok’s fault they could not find it the treasure was never found and neither brother has spoken to the other either since.

Yes, it seems the dwarven blacksmiths Brok and Sindri misplaced one of their treasures and only could remember its general location. Upon learning where this location is for yourself, you then have to complete a certain prompt to unlock the treasure. I won’t spoil the process of unlocking — you can watch the video at the bottom of the page to see  — or what the prize is for completing this task, but I’ll just say that it’s definitely an item you’ll likely want if you’re aiming to take down all of God of War’s Valkyries.

Cory Barlog, the director of God of War, took to Twitter after learning that the community had uncovered this secret and congratulated them on the accomplishment while also thanking those who helped make it possible.

Knowing Barlog and the rest of the team at Santa Monica Studio, there’s no doubt some other Easter eggs tucked away within God of War, so keep digging to see if you can find any of them yourself.

If you haven’t picked up God of War yet, you can head on over to Amazon and grab a copy right now.
