Koei Tecmo announced its Fairy Tail RPG adaptation is getting delayed. The game was supposed to launch worldwide on March 19. It is now coming on June 26, 2020. As a side note, the Japanese version will launch one day earlier, on June 25. Producer Keisuke Kikuchi explained the delay in a message published on the game’s official site:

Producer Keisuke Kikuchi: “I am truly sorry for FAIRY TAIL’s delay, and the inconvenience caused to our fans, partners, and stakeholders who are looking forward to this title. Please allow us to take further time to polish the game to ensure it is as high quality as possible, so we can offer you a truly immersive experience. We will be working hard to enhance the magic effects, event scene effects, improving the game balance, and more! We will talk about the improvements in more detail in the coming months. This delay will allow us to ensure we provide you a much more satisfying game. Thank you for your understanding.”

In a nutshell, the reason for the delay is to improve Fairy Tail RPG’s quality even more. This is the usual reason which doesn’t tell us much that every single Japanese studio always says when they’re delaying a game. You’ve read that countless times by now.

Personally speaking, I’ve never really minded delays ever since I became an adult as there are billions of other things to do in life in the meantime, including other games. Sure, it’s disappointing when you’re really hyped about a game, but that’s how it goes. Anyway, did you hear about how Hiro Mashima really liked Yakuza: Like a Dragon? Hopefully, this game will be out outside Japan by June too, though no release estimate was announced yet by Sega except “2020”. In any case, I’m wishing the best to Koei Tecmo and the development team handling Fairy Tail at Gust. Hopefully, they’ll deliver us a great anime game.

Fairy Tail RPG as I love to call it is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. You can read a whole lot more on the game with our past coverage: the game’s cover art and limited edition details, some screenshots, some gameplay, a cool trailer, and some explanations on the game systems, Be sure to check out our interview with Producer Keisuke Kikuchi as well.
