Today Koei Tecmo released a new batch of screenshots of its upcoming open-world Musou game Dynasty Warriors 9.
The screenshots provide another look at some aspect of the game’s open-world nature, starting with exploration. Scattered across the land the player can find a number of watchtowers. Climbing to the top will provide information about the surrounding area, and mark points of interest on the map.
Straying off the path in forests, mountain ranges, and waterfronts will lead to the discovery of materials that can be gathered, including rare items that can help with crafting powerful items and weapons.
Players can also set box traps of three different sizes (small, medium, and large), and they’ll yield items and tools. Bigger traps grant more valuable rewards. Fishing is also available, providing materials and coins.
It’s also possible to hunt wild animals like wolves, bears and more. Crafting arrows effective against them will be helpful in mastering this activity. Hunting yields Hunting Points, that can be spent at a dedicated NPC for coins, gems, and more.

Dynasty Warriors 9 will release in Japan on February 8th, exclusively for PS4. The western release will happen just a few days later, on February 13th. In the west, we’ll also get two additional platforms: Xbox One, and PC.
