Gina Torres, the Destiny 2 voice actress for the role of Ikora Rey, is probably not involved in Season of the Splicer as the character doesn’t sound like her anymore.

Last night, the Destiny 2 fans finally get to know the official name, theme, and story of Season 14, now known as Season of the Splicer. The game will take you back to the Last City for cutting-edge warfare against the Vex, who has caused an endless night in the city.

While the new season seems promising with some old comrades like Mithrax coming back, there is already a concern among the community around the voice actress behind Ikora Rey.

Who is Gina Torres?

As you may already know, Gina Torres is the original voice actress behind Ikora Rey in Destiny 2. However, in the last trailer from Season of the Splicer, the character doesn’t sound like Gina Torres anymore.

Gina Torres is an American movie and TV series actress who is mostly known for her role in the Firefly series.

While Bungie has not officially reacted to the matter yet, some fans believe that the character has been recast for the new season.

Why Would Bungie Recast Ikora Rey?

While we can’t confirm or reject it, the recast could be possible for Ikora Rey as Gina Torres is a well-known actress. Bringing her back for seasonal content with Bungie’s current independent situation may not sound reasonable financially.

Destiny 2 was originally published by Activision, which allowed the developers to use the company’s hefty budget and invite big names to join the production of the game. But that wouldn’t be easily possible for Bungie now with their departure from Activision and acting as an independent studio.

Again, it’s not confirmed yet whether Ikora Rey has been recast or not, but fans will probably understand the situation of the studio if such a decision has been already made.

Destiny 2 is now available for free on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. The Xbox Game Pass subscribers can get free access to the post-launch expansions and content of the game.
