Demon’s Souls Online Might Just Live Through Private Servers

Atlus, Demon's Souls, News, Platforms, PS3, Sony

Back in November, Atlus revealed that they’d be shutting down the servers for Demon’s Souls on PS3 after eight years.

The servers were officially shut down last week, but that hasn’t stopped the game’s dedicated community from looking for alternative ways to keep the game’s community alive. The project is still a work in progress but it is up and running according to an active Reddit thread.

The private servers currently work on North American and European copies of the game. It’s important to note that the private servers still don’t allow for crossplay between regions. Reddit user teza789 posted an image, that you can see below, of the server working in the game.

The source code was released, meaning players can create their own private servers. It’s incredible to see the turnaround since the Demon’s Souls servers were shut down.

To honor the game, Atlus staff wrote a blog entry talking about their personal memories playing the game. Demon’s Souls is the first entry in the Souls series, it was released exclusively on PS3 on February 5, 2009.There’s an active Reddit thread you can check out if you’re interested in finding out more. The game’s spiritual successor, Bloodborne, will be available as a PS Plus game next month.
