Dead Cells Gets “The Legacy Update” to Celebrate the Holidays

To date, Dead Cells has had 15 free updates to the base game. That’s a ton of balance changes, bug fixes, and new content. If you say, loved the sixth or ninth update, you’d be in tough luck as that update is long gone. However, the good developers at Motion Twin more than have your back. Today, they’ve dropped “The Legacy Update“, which lets players load up any version of the game and jump back in.

From the initial Early Access build to the present day, you can now load up any version of Dead Cells you’d like. This is awesome to see for a game that has had so many updates. Some players will gravitate to one version over the other and giving them an opportunity to go back to their favorites seems like a win-win. Plus, for game preservation, this move goes a long toward making Dead Cells a title that people can go back to.

Along with the update, Motion Twin has done some trickery to give you a way to backup your saves. Many players were accidentally getting their saves eaten by SteamCloud, so Motion Twin has added in a daily backup that you can now access. You’ll have to do some legwork yourself to restore your backups, but this solution is much better than just starting over.

And, of course, Dead Cells will soon be getting its first paid DLC, The Bad Seed, which will be out early next year. For now, players can use The Legacy Update to jump into whichever version of Dead Cells they’d like.
