Darwin Project’s New Trailer Highlights Deadly Audience Participation

Many link up the growing battle royale genre to the popular book series, The Hunger Games. However, no matter what game we are talking about — PUBG or Fortnite — one thing is missing: a malevolent audience, actively participating to shape the obstacles of the world. That is, except for Darwin Project — a fact they highlight on their launch trailer.

Seen below, the Be the Show Director trailer highlights that drone-like, DM-based antagonist. While ten players are gathering resources and finding other players to gun down, another player — or group of them on Twitch — flies around the map as a drone. As compared to the more traditional battle royale games where a fog or storm closes the game map to a single point, the Show Director is able to direct how the map begins restricting in the Darwin Project.

Or, a bit more comically, the Show Director can change the intensity of gravity, letting players jump incredibly high. If the Show Director isn’t in the mood for games, they can mark your character on the map for others to see and put a bounty on your head. Thankfully, these abilities are limited on cooldowns so don’t expect the Show Director to break the game.

Aside from launching in Early Access for PC and Xbox One, the game made a major goodwill move for their community. Specifically, they gave the game out to gree for everyone who has alpha or beta-tested the game in the past.

Darwin Project is available today in Early Access for both PC and Xbox One; like most Early Access games, we have no idea when a formal release is rolling out. However, if you want to hear our early impressions of the game, check out DualShockers’ pre-release preview. Check out the brand new “Be the Show Director” trailer, below:
