Bandai Namco recently announced Dark Souls: Remastered will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 25.

To find out more about the game, DualShockers was able to go hands-on with the PlayStation 4 Pro version of Dark Souls: Remastered, which runs at an upscaled 4k resolution at 60fps. While the game looks loads better, as seen in our comparison video with Dark Souls on PS3, it controls as fans will remember. This could be tough for players who are already a hundred hours into other games such as Monster Hunter World. Thankfully, Dark Souls: Remastered allows players to configure the button layout, a feature that was missing from the original release.

During our time with Dark Souls: Remastered, we ran into some issue where the character would parry consecutively, but this could have been due to a faulty controller. However, one thing is for sure, the game looks rather good for its age and we were excited to jump back in and play the game that defined a genre.

Dark Souls: Remastered will give a new generation of gamers the chance to play the game that started the trend of headlines to describe something that is difficult. It should be noted that Dark Souls: Remastered is not a Remake. All of the game’s assets and textures have been updated to be clear and seen at the highest potential.

You can check out the first dungeon of Dark Souls: Remastered and watch us anxiously attempt to remember gameplay strategies and the control scheme:
