The battle royale genre has taken over the past few years. From titans like Fortnite and PUBG to the newer entries in the genre like Apex Legends and Tetris 99, battle royale seems here to stay. Now, one new fame game creator has said that he even has potential interest in putting his own spin on the genre.

In a recent interview with The Telegraph, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki told the publication that he has great intrigue in battle royale titles and other live service games like Destiny and Anthem. When asked if Miyazaki and From would ever be interested in creating a title like this for themselves, Miyazaki didn’t shoot down the idea.

“There’s always the possibility. These games are definitely fun. And we’re interested in the patterns they are taking,” Miyazaki said. “If we did it, it might be a bit different! But we’re definitely interested and there’s definitely that possibility in the future. We’d love to take a crack at them some day.”

Miyazaki went on to stress though that above all else, diversity is what is important in the gaming industry. “Regardless of what FromSoftware is doing, we need people making battle royale games and live services and we need people making single-player focussed experiences. We feel that this diversity is what will keep everyone going,” Miyazaki said. So while the interest to perhaps jump into the battle royale genre is there, maybe Miyazaki and company feel that their time is still best spent on single-player action experiences with multiplayer elements added on.

Whether or not FromSoftware gets more into live service games remains to be seen, but the studio’s next project, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is slated to release in just a few short days on March 22 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
