During today’s reveal of Cyberpunk 2077 at Microsoft’s press E3 2018 press conference livestreamed from Los Angeles, CD Projekt RED hid a small and cheeky message.
Just before the airing of the trailer, the screen went back, and a “hacking” sequence began. Within the lines of code showcased on the screen we read “w3 l34V3 9R33d 2 0TH3r2” which transliterates as “We leave greed to others.”
This is a reference to a declaration made by the developer last year, in which they promised a “no bullshit” approach to the pricing of the game, mentioning that gamers would get what they pay for, which is a “huge single player, open world, story-driven RPG.” The message ended with “We leave greed to others,” which was an obvious poke to other developers that focus on recurring revenues and microtransaction-based business models.
Apparently, the policy did not change. Besides, it makes a great hacker-like message worthy of a Watch_Dogs game. Ok… wrong franchise.
This was not all, as a full-fledged message was hidden in a frame at the end of the video.
You can check out screenshots of the messages below.
