Today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu included a spread about the upcoming Souls-like action JRPG by Bandai Namco Code Vein.

The article includes a nice batch of new screenshots, alongside more info about the game.

We learn that our hero has the unique ability to regenerate the springs of blood tears. When the hero drips blood on a spring that has lost its energy due to the state of the Vein, those blood tears bear fruit. The hero can also relive the memories of others. When he touches a piece of crystallized memory of a revenant, the owner’s memories return painfully. Those crystals can be found scattered in the Vein.

Regenerating the spring has also the effect of restoring an entity called “Mistletoe.” The reason why the hero has this power is unknown.

We also get to see more about two of the companions that will accompany us on the adventure, Louis and Yakumo.

The first meeting with Yakumo appears to be rather violent, with him aiming a gun at the hero. He seems to be longing for a normal life as a human, talking about things like eating normal food. He also holds a picture with three people, who used to be his mercenary mates.

When he became a revenant Yakumo was saved by Louis just before he would become a lost. The two have acted together since then.

Louis himself has a strong sense of justice, and cannot abandon anyone who is in trouble. Interestingly, he appears to have a map that points to the location of the springs of blood tears. We also see a scene in which the hero relives Louis’ memories, apparently set in a school. Louis himself is kneeling among pools of blood, but we don’t know whether he is at fault for that.

You can check out the screenshots below, keeping in mind that they’re from magazine scans, so the quality is far from perfect. If you want to see and learn more about the game, you can check out some recent screenshots and information, alongside the latest trailer.

Code Vein will be releasing in 2018 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
