Close To The Sun is the latest release from developers Storm in a Teacup. The game is a narrative-driven horror adventure that takes place aboard a ship created by Nikola Tesla. You play as Rose, an investigative journalist searching for her sister. Check out the moody trailer below. It really sets the tone.

From the trailer and gameplay description, it’s clear that Storm in a Teacup is looking to deliver something akin to Amnesia or SOMA. As Rose, you have no means of defending yourself. Instead, you’ll rely on quick wits and problem-solving to keep you safe from the many dangers lurking on the Tesla’s ship.

Visually, the game might remind some of BioShock. The grand halls of the Helios give off a similar vibe, as does the mix of classical architecture and navel mechanisms. We also see some person-shaped light-forms, which look like they came straight from Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.

Obviously, Close to the Sun wears its influences on its sleeve. That said, the game will live and die by its story, which seems intriguing. Your sister, Ada, was a researcher abroad the Helios. The trailer begins with her saying that her research on the ship changed the world, “just not in the way (she) imagined”. Seeing the aforementioned light-forms along with some of the disturbing screenshots available on Storm in a Teacup’s website give this adventure a grim setup that is waiting to be explored.

Fortunately, players don’t have to wait long to try it out for themselves. Close to the Sun is available now on the PC and is coming to consoles later this year.
