This last year has been very productive for Capcom as a whole. Despite the closure of Capcom Vancouver, in 2018 the longtime Japanese publisher has gone from being heavily disliked for things like the botched launch of Street Fighter V to beloved publisher of popular and highly successful titles, both released (Monster Hunter: World) and upcoming (Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5).
Today, Capcom USA topped off this productive year by appointing Rob Dyer as their new Chief Operating Officer, or COO. Starting today he is reporting directly to CEO Kiichiro Urata, and will now “be responsible for all aspects of the company’s publishing business including sales, marketing and operations in the Americas.” Urata-san also commented on the appointment of Rob Dyer, and seems quite pleased with the decision:
“Rob’s strategic acumen, deep industry knowledge and established networks will play a vital role for Capcom’s business goals. He will help steer the success of our incredible portfolio of popular brands such as Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, and more.”
A brief look at Rob Dyer’s LinkedIn page also highlights his storied career moreso than the above quote. Since being in charge of publishing at Crystal Dynamics beginning in 1994, Rob Dyer has worked at companies like Eidos during the period that produced franchises like Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain, and Hitman as well as Crave Publishing, Sony Computer Entertainment America, and Zynga.
Due to his experience at “leading initiatives on a global scale,” Capcom USA decided to bring him in as their new COO. While this shouldn’t have an immediate effect on any announced titles, Rob will be in charge of how Capcom titles are brought over and presented in the Americas from here on out, so his impact will likely be felt in the coming years.
In the meantime, Capcom fans can look forward to the release of Resident Evil 2 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on January 25 and Devil May Cry 5 for those same platforms on March 8.
