Capcom Says It Has “Numerous Titles” in Development with the RE Engine

Capcom has found so much success in recent years in part thanks to its wonderful new game engine, the RE Engine. The engine, which was originally created for 2017’s Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, has since been used in both the remake of Resident Evil 2 and the action title Devil May Cry 5. According to Capcom, this won’t be the last we see of the RE Engine, either.

Following the reveal of Capcom’s financial information for the past fiscal year recently, the publisher was asked about future games that are being developed with the RE Engine. While not outright giving away what those titles might be, Capcom did respond to the question by divulging that the game engine is being used for a variety of projects in the future.

“While we are unable to comment on the specific number of titles or release windows, there are numerous titles currently being developed internally with the RE Engine,” said Capcom in response to the inquiry.

Furthermore, Capcom also commented on next-generation game development and specifically how it relates to the RE Engine. “The games we developed using the RE Engine during this current hardware generation have received critical acclaim, and from the early stages of building this engine, we kept the ability to augment it for next-generation development in mind,” the publisher stated. They continued on saying, “as such, we view the RE Engine as one of our strengths that will contribute to next-generation game creation.”

Honestly, none of this information is all that surprising, but it’s definitely good to hear that Capcom seems to be doubling down on the RE Engine. While all of the games they have made with the engine have been stellar for a variety of reasons, the visuals that the RE Engine has provided in each has been phenomenal. I’m excited to see how this could be improved even further once we do make the jump to next-generation hardware.

Even though it might be awhile until we hear more about what some of these future games could be which are utilizing the RE Engine, perhaps we’ll learn more next month during E3 2019.
