Today, following the Borderlands 3 Gameplay Reveal Event, it was announced that Ray Chase is voicing Rhys in Borderlands 3. Ray Chase is known for voicing Noctis in Final Fantasy XV. In his tweet announcing his role, Ray said he found Troy Baker’s performance of the character in Tales from the Borderlands to be “inspirational” and that his own take on the character will be “a new interpretation.”

This announcement follows Troy Baker telling fans that he was never asked to come back for the role. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford responded by saying that the Audio Director for the game asked him to come back, but Baker refused. After being asked about Pitchford’s response Baker said that he should “fact check” next time.

While the true reason why Troy Baker did not come back to voice Rhys is still a mystery, it is good to know that he is being replaced by someone who is excited to play the character of Rhys and do right by Baker’s performance. The Borderlands 3 Gameplay Reveal Event today showed off an inside look at two of the new Vault Hunters: Zane the Operative and Amara the Siren. That is just a taste of everything that was announced. You can read all about what was shown today at the event here.
