The former NXT Champion and glorious WWE Superstar, Bobby Roode, has had a long and successful career as a professional wrestler. Recently moving up to the WWE’s main roster as part of its Tuesday show, SmackDown Live, he has continued to prosper becoming a dominant figure on the show. Also, the crowd pops every time he comes out.

At a WWE 2K18 event held at the WWE Archives, Roode discusses his entrance, the upcoming wrestling game, and the intricacies of being glorious.

Michael: One of my favorite entrances in the WWE right now is yours. I love the “glorious” entrance. How did you come up with that theme?

Bobby Roode: Well, it all starts with the song. I talked about it earlier in a lot of different interviews, but without that song, I don’t know what my entrance would be. They kind of go hand in hand. When that song starts, it’s such a different song and such a great song and everyone knows the words to it. You just got out there and feel it. Literally be glorious and be in that moment.

Then, of course, when you go into the ring and it’s time to perform, everything has to match. You know what I mean? If you think of some of the greats before me like Steve Austin — you got the breaking of the glass — The Rock, Undertaker (obviously), Triple H, all of those guys had the entrance, had the song, and can back it up in the ring. I wanted to follow that mold.

M: You called out Dolph Ziggler on SmackDown Live just last night for a match at Hell in a Cell. How do you feel about the match?

BR: I think it’s going to be great. Dolph is one of those guys that, looking from the outside in, I thought was an incredible talent. Him and I aren’t that different; I said it on TV last night. We are really alike in a lot of ways.

We both demand respect in the ring, we both want to go out there and tell a great story, and outperform everything on the show. If we have that attitude going into the match, I think we have the opportunity to do what he says everyday, which is to go out there and steal the show.

M: Since we are here previewing WWE 2K18, I was wondering if you got a chance to play the game today? How did you feel about it?

BR: Yeah, I think the game is awesome. The attention to detail and everything. I played as myself, obviously. From the music, to the character, to the robe, to the facial expressions, to the hair, to everything. Everything is right on. It’s kind of surreal.

You get into this business to perform with that rush in front of a live crowd. But then you sit back and think, wow, this is pretty cool. I’m in a video game. I have an action figure. I have a t-shirt people wear. Those are the bonuses.

It has been really cool here today to be able to come here and to see everything. They actually had a WCW Supershow in Japan, it had Sting with the old face paint. It’s is just such a cool game. If you’re a wrestling fan, this is the best game ever. If you’re not, you need to play it  because you’re going to become one, for sure.

MR: My last question: As the glorious superstar that you are, how does one become glorious?

BR:Well, there’s a path you have to take, and not everyone is cut out for that path. There hasn’t been very many glorious people before me and I don’t know if there is going to be very many people that are going to be as glorious as me after me. So, I’m going to carry that glorious torch for as long as I can, and have a lot of fun doing it.

Bobby Roode, Breezango, and many more will be making their way to the virtual squared circle in WWE 2K18 on October 17, 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The Nintendo Switch version will be available sometime this Fall. Recently announced, ten more characters will be added to the extensive roster when they are released as DLC.
