After announcing plans for BlizzCon 2019 last week, Blizzard has recently confirmed that it won’t be attending the world’s largest gaming convention, Gamescom, this summer.

Blizzard shared the news in a new blog post on its website recently informing fans of the decision. The post in question stated that the publisher is opting to skip out on the convention as part of the overhaul that the company is currently undergoing internally after laying off hundreds of employees earlier this year.

“As part of a renewed effort this year to maintain our focus on development, for our current games and our future projects, we won’t have a booth at gamescom 2019,” the message on Blizzard’s site said. Of the future, Blizzard’s statement ended by saying, “We’re also looking forward to sharing more details about the projects we’re currently working on when the time is right.”

As I wrote last week, it seems like BlizzCon will be Blizzard’s big focus of attention in 2019. As the company continues to undergo internal changes, it seems like BlizzCon, which takes place in November, will be the first instance in which Blizzard likely makes any sort of major headlines in 2019. Hopefully, BlizzCon will be “when the time is right” for Blizzard and we’ll finally start to see what they have coming up in the future.

Until that time though, it seems like you should probably expect relative silence out of Blizzard except for when it comes to updates dealing with games like Overwatch and such. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll finally hear about that much-rumored Diablo 4 when Blizzard decides to finally talk about the future.
