No matter how much people love Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, there’s one thing that both haters and fanboys of the game can agree on: the Merit system in the game’s Blackout mode is a bit of a joke. Now, that seems like it’s going to change. Earlier today, David Vonderhaar, Studio Design Director at Treyarch, revealed that the battle royale leveling up system may FINALLY be getting an upgrade.

As you can see from the tweet below, Vonderhaar is jokingly telling himself not to tell the audience and fans about a Merit system refactor. A refactoring is, essentially, a change in how a system functions, so hopefully it gets a whole facelift because right now, it needs it.

For those that don’t know, like the game’s standard Multiplayer or Zombies modes, Blackout’s leveling system is based entirely on what place you get in each match, what challenges you complete, and, of course, how many kills you get. This, however, raises two problems: 1) because players get very few kills in battle royale mode (unless you’re an absolute beast) it’s hard to level up at all and 2) there’s next to no rewards for leveling up, aside from a couple of generic skins and calling cards. While the system was changed for the better when it was originally released, it’s still kind of dumb.

As of the time of this update, we have no idea exactly what changes will be made to the system, but, like most of the things Treyarch is teasing right now, it definitely seems like it’ll go live this Tuesday when the next season of content starts, which is set to include new maps, modes, Blackout map updates, weapons, and more.

In other Black Ops 4 news, earlier today it was revealed that WWE superstar Booker T. is suing Activision, claiming that it and Treyarch used his likeness for the in-game specialist Prophet without his permission.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. If you want to get your hands on a physical version of the game from Amazon, you can do so by clicking here.
