Today Bioware General Manager Casey Hudson posted on the official site of the studio to talk about the upcoming game Anthem.

First of all, we learn that the game will be showcased live at EA Play in June, so we’re soon going to get a sizable taste of what it’ll look like.

According to Hudson since Anthem is a BioWare game, the players should feel like the hero of the story, and that the story is about them. He feels that people are concerned about the multiplayer nature of the game because this issue has not been solved well before.

That being said, the developer is “taking the problem head-on” and structuring the entire design of the game to provide a specific solution to it. While we don’t get to know yet how it works, it creates “a unique experience where you have control over your own story, but your story is set in an ever-changing multiplayer world.”

Hudson promises that while “Anthem is meant to bring out the best parts of playing as part of an online community, you can choose to play through the story with only your friends, or even on your own.”

Interestingly, we also get a tease. BioWare has teams at work envisioning future games, and they’re designing approaches different from Anthem “including one that’s very Dragon Age.” You can interpret this as you will, as Hudson doesn’t explain what he means.

Another intriguing element of Hudson’s post is a new mission statement for the studio, which you can read below.

We create worlds
of adventureconflict, and companionship
that inspire you to become the hero of yourstory.

Among the concepts expressed is the fact that BioWare’s mission is primarily about creating worlds, and companionship means that the studio’s games are never about solitary characters, as the protagonists always live their adventures with a group of friends.

At times those friends are other players, and sometimes they’re fictional characters. Regardless of that, BioWare aims “to capture the special feeling of being on a journey with memorable companions.”

Anthem will release in March 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but Electronic Arts executives mentioned the possibility of playing it early, even if they did not explain how.
