Battle Princess Madelyn is what you get when a game developer has a kid and loves her so much that he puts her in a game. It started as a Kickstarter project, which then quickly met its funding goals, and is set to release in February 2018. Today we got a slew of new screenshots.

Chris Obritsch of Casual Bit Games is a game developer with a young daughter named Madelyn, and being such a great dad, he put her in her own game. A heavy inspiration from Ghouls and Ghosts can be seen immediately, with a very similar running and jumping animation, but instead of Arthur, the protagonist is an armored young girl named Madelyn.

In the trailer seen here, her armor changes depending on the levels and equipment available. Different armor seems to have different moves associated with it. According to Obritsch, the game will differ from Ghouls and Ghosts in that players can return to previous levels to uncover hidden secrets. In that sense, it seems like Shovel Knight where the initial idea is inspired by classics, but expanded upon with 21st-century ideas.

Battle Princess Madelyn reached CA$212,665 on Kickstarter and is planned for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Wii U, Steam, and a DRM-free PC version in February 2018. Other stretch goals reached include a PS Vita port, a soundtrack, and a plushie of Madelyn. Check out the screenshots below:
