It’s a good day to be a Super Smash Bros. Fan/Amiibo Collector. During The Game Awards last night, the latest DLC character for Ultimate was revealed to be none other than Sephiroth, Final Fantasy VII’s main antagonist, and rival of Super Smash Bros’ other Final Fantasy representative, Cloud.

Alongside the Sephiroth reveal, Nintendo confirmed the release dates for their latest batch of Amiibo, which includes Banjo and Kazooie, Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Terry Bogard. The trio, which was announced back in October alongside the reveal of Minecraft Steve, will be releasing on March 26, 2021.

While the Amiibo release dates have been confirmed by the Nintendo of America Twitter account, neither the Nintendo of Europe or UK accounts have confirmed the dates across the pond. It is still likely that they’ll release on the same day, however.

These three Amiibo will be joining another pair set to release in the first quarter of next year. Announced as part of Nintendo’s Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct was a double pack of Amiibo featuring Cat Mario and Cat Peach. The pair are due to be released alongside Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury when that launches on the Nintendo Switch in February.

As well as revealing the Amiibo release dates on their official Twitter accounts, Nintendo cheekily shared Sephiroth’s place on the ongoing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Mural. The villain has, as Nintendo put it, “found a cosy spot right next to Cloud.”

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
