During Activision’s conference call for investors and analysts, Chief Executive Officer Eric Hirshberg talked about the initial performance of Destiny 2.

According to Hirshberg, Activision is “very happy” with the performance of Destiny 2, which is already the best selling console game in the United States to date. Compared to the original Destiny, it also improved “pretty much in all the important metrics,” including total consumer spend, hours played per player and average revenue per user.

The game also has a very strong attach rate for the expansion pass, which Hirshberg mentions as a “great indication” of the fans’ ongoing commitment to engage with the franchise.

Activision knew the fans wanted a game with a “great engaging story,” great characters and a more accessible experience overall, and they think they have met those expectations. They also know fans are hungry for more, and “multiple triple-A teams” are already developing content for Destiny 2, with “more content than ever before” to support the game.

On top of that, the publisher expects the PC version of the game to open up new geographies, where they think the game is going to be “really well received.”

The game has “good momentum,” with events incoming, planned through the holidays. on top of compelling endgame content, supported by strong marketing.

On top of this, Chief Financial Officer Spencer Neumann added that over 50% of Destiny 2‘s console sales were full game digital downloads. This is also due to some really compelling digital premium packages which “delivered a lot of value.” That being said, retail is expected to regain share in the holidays, but the publisher predicts that the digital share will still be “well ahead” of the original Destiny by the end of the fiscal year.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The first expansion, Curse of Osiris, releases on December 5th, and you can also read its first details.
