Well, I was going to report on this yesterday after seeing it doing the rounds on Twitter, but I became sidetracked. Then I remembered and shot here to start writing up the news about Bethesda selling a Fallout 76 inspired leather jacket. I looked into it more and it turns out that a large majority of the Internet has jumped onto the Tweet with a barrage of replies.
So, what’s going on? Well, to allow super fans of the Fallout 76 game to show their support, a bright blue lambskin leather jacket is available to order from Bethesda’s Gear store. This jacket has the 76 on the reverse of the jacket in metallic gold with adjustable cuffs and is lined in a taffeta fabric that is silky and shiny. It’ll cost you $276 and comes packaged inside a Fallout 76 garment bag. How quaint.
Fresh out of the Vault! These premium #Fallout76 leather jackets are now available on @BethesdaGear https://t.co/TvN74An3yU pic.twitter.com/lbqy9QIqyx

The thing is, that garment bag looks suspiciously like nylon. The very bag that landed Bethesda in hot water in November last year when people that expected a canvas bag as part of their Power Armor Edition purchases ended up with nylon bags. Of course, it could just be the lighting of the photo which you can find below, I mean, even the leather jacket appears to look like a different material because of the intense lighting.
It’s safe to say that the Tweet garnered a good deal of digs similarly to what we saw during the bag controversy.

As you’d expect the comments go on as such, making a lot of references to how the lighting makes the leather look like plastic or tarp. The full product description details the jacket as the following,
- Original custom neck label issued from the vault
- Black leather 76 patch on front
- Metallic gold 76 appliqué on the back
- Asymmetrical back seam, metallic gold piecing and bicep arm pads all inspired by the Vault Suit
- Metallic gold hardware including a custom bolt zipper pull
- Adjustable cuffs for the wrists
- Lined in silky, shiny taffeta fabric
- Comes packaged inside a Fallout 76 garment bag
As for the game, Fallout 76 was rumored to be going free-to-play after an Australian retail store lacked physical copies of the title. Bethesda had however confirmed that this rumor is false. There are also some new features to arrive to the game this year, such as a survival mode, as detailed in the official blog post.
Fallout 76 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
